Chinese Fans

Chinese fans make for a striking decorative accent in any home. Used for their ceremonial significance, Oriental wall fans were often carried by women of the social elite. Typically made with feathers, mounted fine paper or silk and supported by bamboo, ivory or sandalwood, Chinese paper fans were always sure to enhance the elegance and gracefulness of any feminine holding it. As a result of its use among the upper class, scholars and famous artisans found the fine paper and silk to be an interesting canvas to paint their poetic and artistic expressions on the surface. Which further elevated their stature and prominence due to each fan's uniqueness and exceptional rarity. By virtue Japanese fans and Chinese fans were later found to be used as wall decor as a sign of wealth and power.
